  • Welcome to Nepalese Americas Council

    Dear Friends:

Welcome to the official web site for NAC, an organization established to support coordination of common objectives of members organizations throughout North America. Currently, we have approximately 25 Nepal and Nepali related associations as NAC members. I urge you to support expansion of our membership base.

NAC has an illustrious history of 16 years supporting common agendas of Nepalis in the US and Canada, and it has been served and led by many of the best Nepali community leaders in North America.

I pledge to you all that I and the new NAC Board will do our best to continue this proud tradition, and help take NAC even further in its service orientation.

For the coming two years, 2007-2008, the NAC Board wishes to promote and enhance the fine objectives of NAC, while particularly concentrating on the following areas.

Among the many fine principles and missions of NAC are service to its member organizations, an open and honest communication with all stakeholders and friends. Further, NAC can also be a more effective vehicle to steer and support the global NRN movement which is in its crucial initial stage of development.

Similarly, Nepal is also in the most important transition in its history, and an appropriate and humble engagement by the Diaspora can provide support and help for consolidating the hard-earned democracy and peace in Nepal. Within an appropriate framework as allowed by its by-laws, NAC should remain interested and engaged in these events, and support economic development in Nepal.

Equally important is the rise of the Nepali community in North America, which is now larger, more diverse and resourceful than ever before. It is also more capable of achieving higher goals and standards for the community. On the other hand, the new Nepali arrivals, and the second and third generation Nepalis in the continent can benefit from the professional support and cultural inspiration by organizations like NAC.

NAC has finely crafted by-laws and several tacit norms on how it should function given the sensitivities of several issues, and on how to maintain a balance between the interests of its many member organizations. Most importantly, like its preamble states, NAC can provide the most value added service to its members by providing any necessary coordination and collaboration on common interests and goals.

Please feel free to contact me at Ambika@alum.mit.edu or any of the Board members listed on this web site for any questions, suggestion or comments.

    Sincerely,

    Ambika Prasad Adhikari
